EVERY PROMISE IS A THREAT

by Joseph Sobran

FULTON'S COMMENTARY ON THIS ARTICLE:

Every so often, I read something that makes me wonder if the writer has read my writings.  There is a phrase or expression that is similar to something I have written.  I have repeatedly hammered away at the fact that you do not have the right to take a gun in hand and force your neighbor to surrender his money.  To my knowledge, this particular characterization--the use of the neighbor to illustrate my point--is unique to me.  So, when I read Sobran's article and came across the sentence: "It was understood that if you had no right to take something from your neighbor, you had no right to have the government take if from him for you."...I couldn't help but wonder if the ideas expressed in Fatal Blindness were beginning to spread.

I may or may not have influenced Sobran, but his article is on target.  Every promise made by a statist politician is a threat to your freedom and to your wallet.
